LINDSEY W. ANDREWS

Have you heard of Rothy’s?? Lindsey, our favorite family law attorney introduced them to us a few weeks back while on a video conference.

“I wear them whenever I’m not in the courtroom! And even when I am, they’re in my bag”, she admitted.

We are SO excited about this (new to us) brand that’s not only fantastically cute, but socially conscious. Founded with an unwavering commitment to design, they wanted to create a beautiful shoe with the environment in mind. “Anyone can make pretty shoes” they explain, “we took it a step further and developed a way to craft stylish, comfortable flats from recycled plastics with virtually no waste throughout the entire process.”

Can you believe they’ve already saved over 20 MILLION water bottles from the landfill?

Plus, who doesn’t love matching mom/daughter footwear?! Especially when you’re literally able to slide them off your feet and right into the washing machine. Yes, REALLY!

Can we just talk about Target for a second? But seriously, Target. You’ve done it again. Meredith’s booties are just the cutest.

She says, These leopard booties are my go-to shoe for sassing up an outfit. And every time I wear them — without fail — someone says how much they love them. They can never believe it when I tell them they’re from Target!”

TERESA SWANSTROM ANDERSON

FAVORITE PAIR: Gaby Flat in Embriodered Floral by Root Collective

Meet Teresa.png
Root Collective 8.png

Our founder, Teresa is a total heels girl (she says the taller her teenage sons grow, the taller her shoes need to be, haha). That being said, she’s completely obsessed with these floral flats by Root Collective these days.

Teresa says, “My parents moved us to Guatemala during my middle school years so knowing what I’m wearing on my feet is actually impacting people inside a country I love dearly is incredible. Plus…the shoes incredibly well made, comfortable, and even more gorgeous in real life.”

Have you heard of Root Collective? They’re literally changing the world while partnering with small, independent workshops because they believe that's where the most impact in communities happen. With the goal to support existing workshops that are run by local business owners, all of their producers receive beyond fair trade wages.

Teresa remembers the guerilla warfare and gang disturbance well, so knowing that Root Collective is working intentionally to help communities have safe alternatives is extraordinary. Providing steady and safe jobs fight against violence in Guatemala by giving young men and women an alternative to joining the gangs, which are rampant in many communities throughout the country.

Head on over to Root Collective’s site. With a motto like: Ethically made. Empower communities. Invest in change. you know we’re big fans. We bet you will be, too.

We know you love discounts (so do we)…so click on the button above for $20 off!

For even more fun #momboss fashion, head on over to Kristen’s post: The Work-From-Home Mom's Guide to Dressing Without Yoga Pants (which truly, is for any mom because the stuff in here is just so darn cute)

You’ll never wear yoga pants outside of yoga again!

What are your favorite shoes??? We’d LOVE to know more brands + styles for next time!! xo, Teresa

The Work-From-Home Mom's Guide to Dressing Without Yoga Pants

I love working from home and the fact that I don’t have to dress up like I once did in my (non-remote) corporate job is so wonderful. But let’s be honest…I’m tired of yoga pants. Are you?

I’ve realized I’m actually more productive if I’m not in loungewear all day. Though I may no longer need all those pencil skirts and stilettos, I still want to dress in a way that my mindset is on work and productivity. So toss your pj’s and workout gear back in the drawer and keep reading for comfy…and cute…alternatives!

PANTS

Although other pants certainly hang in my closet, I find myself reaching for either my Spanx faux leather leggings or a quality pair of denim almost every day. I am a super fan of the high rise trend in jeans (because, hello…four kids) and denim can be dressed up or down so easily.

For years I thought I was saving money by buying cheaper jeans when really I was wasting so much money! Why? Because quality denim can literally last you a decade and goes many wearings without needing a wash. My current favs are Madewell, but I also love 7 for All Mankind, J. Crew, and Hudson.

(NOTE: Photos in above slideshow are all Madewell.)

The Spanx faux leather leggings fit like a glove and can be worn with a sweatshirt and tennies if you are headed to the gym, and then transitioned with a tunic sweater and boots for a meeting later. They also have the most fantastic “jean-ish leggings” that we’re obsessed with.

(NOTE: Photos in above slideshow are all Spanx.)

SKIRTS, DRESSES, and JUMPERS, oh my!

If I am going to wear a dress all day, wiping kids noses, playing a quick game of soccer in the backyard, and then meeting at the coffee shop for a collaboration meeting in the afternoon, let’s just be real… it needs to be comfy, maintain its shape, and not get too wrinkly! Sonnet James checks all these boxes and when you support this company, you are supporting a single mom that got her hustle on, believed in her dreams, and is a shining example of what happens when hustle meets heart.  I’m seriously in love.

(NOTE: Photos in above slideshow are all Sonnet James)

I wear skirts more rarely, but when I do, I like them to be the star of the show because they’re bright or bold and fun. I’m currently drawn toward a lace or sequin skirt paired with something much more casual like a V-neck tee and flats or my chambray button down and leather sandals.

(NOTE: Photos in above slideshow are all J.Crew)

Jumpers are just as easy to dress up or down as denim. Statement earrings and heels and you are ready for cocktail hour, add a blazer and flats and rock a meeting, or a messy bun and sandals for a playdate. You will get absolutely mileage out of this piece! This one is from Evereve- another mom dreamt and owned business that I love to support.

(NOTE: Photos in above slideshow are all Evereve)

TOPS

This, I feel like is the easiest category in terms of what you can get away with when you are a work from home mom, so therefore also the easiest place to express your sense of style. After four babies and multiple surgeries, I’ve had to add a new section to my closet called the, “This is what is flattering for now, but I hope to return to all my other clothes someday.”

Button down shirts, flowy tops that get shape from a front tuck and layers like vests and sweaters are what I feel most confident in. If you are looking to add a couple of luxury sweaters to your closet that are anything but typical and oh-so-flattering, check out Evy’s Tree. Madewell and J.Crew definitely have great variety for button downs, and another mom-owned business I love to support (and love their affordable tee’s) is Grace and Laced.

(NOTE: Photos in above slideshow are all Evy’s Treealso a mom-owned business!)

JEWELRY

Statement earrings immediately dress up your look and add interest to an outfit that might otherwise be basic. I am currently obsessed with all things Kendra Scott and you can find me in this earring/necklace combo almost every day. The necklace can be customized to any color you want and I find this small size necklace works with almost every outfit and since it’s so tiny, it’s also less enticing for my toddler to yank on.

For a slightly more casual look, I love the pieces from Noonday Collection (you guessed it…another mom-owned business!) but I love their mission even more:

Together we're building a flourishing world where women are empowered, children are cherished, people have jobs, and we are connected.

(NOTE: Photos in above slideshow are all Noonday Collection)

3 Tricks to Help You Look Rested

I hate to admit it, but for years, I would literally be asked these things on a daily basis:

“Are you tired?”

“Did you know you have mascara under your eyes?”

“Do you want to borrow my concealer?”

I may have laughed and rolled my eyes at their comments, but would inwardly cringe when friends and co-workers brought up how absolutely and completely exhausted I appeared. Part of me wanted to respond with some sort of justification like, “If you only knew how much I do and what my daily schedule looks like”…but I don’t really want to wear my busyness like a badge of honor. Because it isn’t one.

Instead, I’ve found a few tricks that help me look more rested (though let’s be honest, actually GETTING rest should be at the top of the list):

edited.jpg

I’ve realized a routine to not look so tired (zombie, anyone??) was absolutely essential. Yes, I needed to give myself grace for a busy schedule or a forgetful morning when I’m running late, but I had to take action and make this a new habit. The necessity wasn’t simply because I wanted to look better and stop having people comment on my physical appearance, but I realized this presented myself in a way that seemed like I was running myself ragged and unable to keep my life together. Though that’s obviously false, the appearance of it isn’t good for running a business.

  1. Drink TONS of water

Yes, I’m seriously starting with something so simple! This has not only assisted in the health of my skin, but in my overall health. It was a struggle at first, but I currently drink up to 6 bottles a day and instead of a coffee cup, a bottle of water takes up residence upon my desk. In fact, if you sneak a peek inside my bag, you’ll find a big container inside there, too.

Coffee (which is actually dehydrating) and other beverages are very tempting at times, but I’ve realized that if I actually carry a water bottle around with me, I’ll be less tempted to drink anything else. Add a squeeze of lemon if you like, and you’re good to go!

My current favorites:

Corkcicle | Rifle Paper Co.

2. Waterproof Mascara

It had never occurred to me to use waterproof mascara outside of the pool (actually…believe it or not, I have never used it there either). I doubt I will never go back to the regular stuff though because I no longer have mid-day raccoon eyes. What an easy and immediate fix! My under eyes have never been so clear!

My current favorite:

Too Faced: Better than Sex (Waterproof) Mascara

rawpixel-1366159-unsplash.jpg

3. Science

Best of all, I tapped into science and have been obsessed with microneedling. Curious what that is? (Don’t freak out…it’s incredible for your skin!) In a nutshell, it’s all about maximum productivity for your skincare!! By rolling the regeneration tool onto your face and décolletage, your favorite skincare is able to get down into the depth that helps regenerate the collagen of your skin (confused? Watch this video from Beauty Bio’s IG Stories). Seriously…it’s a game-changer!

My current favorites:

Glo Pro | Or this less-expensive one via Amazon

GloPro.png

With these three simple steps towards change, I no longer cringe over comments about how tired I appear (yay!). And by looking rested and healthy, I put a better foot forward with clients… as well as with my confidence.

Messy Braid-Bun Tutorial (Video)

Whether you missed washing your hair (hello dry shampoo!!) or you just want something extra fun and out of your face, this quick messy braid-bun is the perfect way to get some major WOW points!

IMG_3271.jpg

This gorgeous hair tutorial (and voices in the video) are founder of The & Society, Teresa Swanstrom Anderson and her hair and makeup stylist Kat Thomas (from Kat Pro Studio in Denver, CO).

Our favorite part? Hearing them chat and laugh through this fun little DIY!

1. Start with giving the hair body curls and spray with a texturizing spray (this one is a fave)!

 2. Then take three sections on the side where you want your braid to be placed and you are going take each section and feed it under one another to create a reversed braid. When you complete your braid go back through and pull softly on the sections.

 3. Add as many braids as you would like.

 4. Repeat on the other side.

 5. Take the remainder of the hair and put it in a lose messy bun (don't over think it!)

 6. Bobby pin your bun to secure it.

 7. Take the tales of your braids and pin them into your bun

 8. Done! Bet it looks gorgeous.
